The Hurstbridge Farmers Market is an initiative of Nillumbik Shire Council and is run on a not for profit basis. The Market is managed by Council with the support of a community based committee of management. Its main aims are to:
-
provide local producers with an opportunity to sell their produce direct to consumers,
-
establish an enjoyable community event,
-
encourage people to eat more fresh produce,
-
provide an opportunity for people to learn more about seasonal produce, and
-
raise funds for community purposes.
The establishment of the Market was assisted by funding from Regional Development Victoria through its Farmers Market Program.
The Hurstbridge Farmers Market is a member of the Victorian Farmers Market Association (VFMA) and is run as an authentic farmers’ market. This means that it will be “a predominantly fresh food market that operates regularly within a community, at a focal public location providing a suitable environment for farmers and food producers to sell farm-origin and associated value-added processed food products directly to customers”.
It will operate from 8.30am to 1.00pm on the first Sunday of each month and will be held on the days nominated whatever the weather.
